Its crazy. The retro boom happened and the xr1200 didnt take off the way the Bonneville or thruxton did. I wish Harley kept producing them. I think it needed a few more years to catch on.

Very tidy explanation. Do anyone here know somewhere to find archived diameter sizes of flywheels, stators and coils ? ...I have to reinvent an ignition system for an old "no parts to be had anymore" engine.

Test rode the FTR, and an XR at a later date. The XR is now sitting in my garage. It's just a much more emotionally stirring machine, and has a better feel. It is simply a "special" bike. Tbh, the FTR just felt like a crappier version of Yamaha's XSR900 (which in itself is an awesome bike.)

4000rpm you're just hitting the fun zone(high tq rpm to high HP rpm) Stock pipes are quietest of Sportster stock pipes. $5000 there's something wrong with it You need slow speed maneuver practice/lessons Does it really have more tq/HP than other 1200.........or is it fooling the motorcycle treadmill by being geared lower.......XR 2800rpm is 52mph, XL is 60mph, XL in 4th is 52mph

-900$, a leaking exhaust, and horrible throttle response is what i get when i take it to KTM dealership to get this done! Wish i saw this before. Thanks for the video.

I'm retired from Harley Davidson and own 4 of these XR's. They were our least popular model for 5 years running and were one of the best bikes we ever designed and built. Didn't watch the entire vid but i'm guessing 53MPH in 1st.

I have a roadster and I actually love the stock seat and have no quarrels with it

I will add the fact that you can’t really see the digital speedometer during daylight and the right turn signal switch on the throttle side, but I guess that’s all sportsters (all harleys?). Even then, I really love my Roadster 😊

I don't know if the XR1200 is the "best" Harley Davidson ever made, which is always subjective. But I can tell you this as the owner of four of them: I'm 69 years old and every time I get one out of my building, it puts a smile on my face just looking at it. Then I ride it and know why I collect them. I think they're the most pleasant and enjoyable "small-twin" Harley ever produced. That I'm sure of.

I had a Buell xb9 ,20 years back, sounds the same, probably handles the same as well. Fun bike, seat hard as a saw horse. Sold for victory hammer, Decent bike, but big/heavy. Smiles per mile higher on beull

Not bad ...My 72 MG Midget I purchased in 1973 the lights would only work if I stuck a half clothes pin behind the dimmer switch ,only the brights would work but nobody ever flashed me lol the water temp gauge and tach were the only ones that worked . I. Bought it as is from a Volkswagen dealership . I loved that car . Don't drive it in any deep water puddles it just might die on you 😂

Anyone can own a MIATA. Not everyone can own a Midget or an MGB. I have owned Midgets I prefer the MGB. I currently have a 63. I would not trade mine for a MIATA. I would consider a new MIATA F.

So the springs are too soft for your liking, that's an easy thing to fix. They can't make a bike for everyone, almost all new bikes come with 5wt oil, regardless of manufacturer.

I have a 1200, with 150,000 mi. 99,. The only thing I don't like about it is Harleys don't hold the road well if u are in the rain , my tire spens and fish tail. I would much rather have a z Kawasaki rs 900 for cross country trip they handle great in the rain, more power, more argal on the freeway They are super reliable. The 114 Harley only has 95 Hp.117 only 103 hp. The 900 is lighter with 113 hp big difference. My Harley clutch cable has broke twice and I replace the clutch plates once on the Kawasaki nothing never went out . For cross country give me a kawaski🧝⚡

I have a 2019 rc390 and what worked for me was get it to about 6k rpms at first gear going about 24 then just hit the throttle no clutch it just lifted up by itself

They are tough bikes except the 883, I have the 1200 it spins back tire in the rain I would rather have a kawaski 900 rs for menny reasons

Harleys always have problems get a kawaski and u won't have to worry about braking down besides their not very stable in the rain

I have a 1200 s 1999 it has over 100,000 it's a good bike but I really don't like it in the rain because the back tire wants to spin and fish tail when I take off. And my leg get really hot from the moter needs some chaps. And the free way it really doesn't have the power I want. It rides a little ruf I'm going

I had over 100,000 mi on my 1999 1200 Harley Sportster and I never checked the back tire weel bareings and one day my back tire locked up and me and the bike hit the payment in one second was no fun manage to pick up bike and take it to the Harley shop in Vegas in which they charge me 2000 dollars to replace the tire and break celebar .the service department in Las Vegas rip me off a few times thats why I'm saving for a 900 rs Kawasaki a bike that will never let me down and handles way better and is way faster and reliable then any Harley made I know I use to drive them fast on the free way from FLa to nav .Vegas. and I have been driving bikes for over 50 years and If u want a bike that will last u the rest of your life and never let u down that u will fall in love with buy the 900 Kawasaki rs . Get sliders, windshield, heater grips, Ecu flash, back luggage to carry your goodies, and u will be ready to rock and roll. O one more thing about the Harley Sportster my cluch cable broke twice , u ever try driving a bike with out a. Clutch it's no fun , very scary. Put a fake part on your moter to stash your weed SE u at the beach in FLA were the babes are 🧝⚡💤

I gotta disagree about the maturity thing. Mature riders wear gear, and real helmets, something that's pretty rare amongst harley riders.
